Ohio State Law on At-Home Abortions
- Legal Restrictions: abortion pills must be given to patients in clinical settings – mainly clinics, medical offices, and hospitals – by a certified prescriber.
- Ultrasound Requirement: An ultrasound must be performed before administering abortion-inducing drugs to determine the gestational age and to rule out ectopic pregnancy.
- Informed Consent: Ohio law mandates that women receive specific information about the procedure and its risks at least 24 hours before the abortion.
Potential Dangers of At-Home Abortions
- Lack of Medical Oversight: Without a doctor’s supervision, there’s no way to confirm the gestational age (how far along in the pregnancy you are) or rule out an ectopic pregnancy, which can be life-threatening.
- Higher Risk of Complications: Chemical abortions at home have a higher risk of complications such as incomplete abortion, severe bleeding, and infection.
- Emergency Situations: Without immediate access to medical care, complications like hemorrhage (significant blood loss) or severe pain can occur quickly.
- Misuse of Medications: Ordering pills online can lead to incorrect dosages or counterfeit drugs, increasing health risks.
Things to Consider
- Health and Safety: Your health and safety are top priority. Medical professionals can provide the necessary care and ensure that the procedure is as safe as possible.
- Support and Guidance: Talking to a healthcare provider can help you understand all your options and make an informed decision that’s best for you.
- Emotional Impact: Consider the emotional and psychological effects. Support from a professional can help you process emotions.
- Future Health: Ensuring your current health can have a positive impact on your future fertility and overall well-being.

After completing paperwork, you will meet with our medical professionals to go over your information and a pregnancy test will be administered. With a positive pregnancy test result, we will then confirm a living, intrauterine pregnancy via an ultrasound.
